The Taxpayer Bar Launch New Summer Menu

Alana Trezise

The Taxpayer Bar on Victoria Square have very recently revamped their aesthetic, along with a new menu and cocktail lists, just in time for summer.

Nestled between cafes and offices on Victoria Square, The Taxpayer Burger and Booze Bar reflects a sophisticated yet eclectic space, offering up some of Adelaide's best sliders, burgers and booze.

Last night, we headed along to celebrate the launch of the new food and drinks menus, and boy oh boy, did it satisfy. We were lucky enough to try a range of sliders and sides from the menu, including the Al Capone (beef patty, smoked mozzarella, pancetta, sticky balsamic onions, semi sundries tomatoes and pickled chilli) and Wesley Snipes beef burgers (signature beef patty, smoked bacon, cheese, tomato, greens, aioli and tomato relish), along with the vegetarian Heidi Fleiss sliders (grilled haloumi, sautéed mushrooms, carrot, alfalfa, greens, herb mayo and sweet onion, pineapple relish). Sides came in the form of shoestring fries with parmesan and truffle oil, and some delightfully delicious nachos (with home-made guacamole... yum).

Each dish we tried oozed with flavour and generosity, exemplifying the perfect combination between rustic, homely and damn right delicious. Each of the sliders were a hit with the crowd, and the cheesy-fries went down a treat. Full marks all round.

On the cocktail front, we tried The Godfather, Flipper, Drop Zone, and Jungle Fever, along with a taste of some of their signature punch bowls. Yes, you can order a punch bowl for yourself and all your pals!

Each cocktail had us wanting more, although we've got to hand it to whoever came up with The Godfather, as it was hands down, one of the best cocktails I have ever tasted. Makers Mark bourbon, a dash of bitters, vanilla bean ice-cream and a pinch of salt made for a smooth, alcohol infused vanilla milkshake with a twist. Delicious.

The sangria, punch bowls and citrus infused cocktails make for a perfect summer sesh, day or night, so kudos to The Taxpayer team for mixing it up and adding some absolutely cracking cocktails to the new and improved list. We can't wait to come back and try the rest!
