After a sell out show at the Edinburgh Festival in 2018, Anna Nicholson is bringing her energetic comedy show Woman Of The Year to the Adelaide Fringe in 2019.

The show follows four competition nominees, each vying for the opportunity to take home the acclaimed ‘Woman Of The Year’ title. With emphasis on female empowerment, Nicholson aims to create a sense of community within her audience as she pokes fun at the flaws of each nominee, celebrating all of their imperfections as traits to what makes them who they are.

None of Nicholson’s shows are ever the exact same, with the audience being heavily involved in the direction of the story, playing the vital role in choosing which nominee takes home the title ‘Woman Of The Year’.

Ever heard someone say ‘we danced all night long’ and never fully believed that they actually meant all night long? This exciting new Adelaide Fringe event will quite literally have people dancing, ALL. DAY. LONG.

It’s a 12 hour event starting at midday, where the last dancer standing will take home a generous prize of $1000 cash, and maybe a blister or two. Along with loads of dancing, event goers can expect food trucks, DJs and a cocktail bar to keep them going even when their feet seem as though they won’t.

Event organiser, Callum Dinnison, says it’s been in the works for a few years now and is hoping his unique party idea becomes an annual Fringe favourite.

All in all, a great day - with 10% of bar sales being donated to a charity of Dinnison’s interest.

WOMAD - one of the most magical events to happen in Adelaide.

When broken down, WOMAD means Word Of Music, Arts and Dance. With the event centered largely around music and dance acts, there is also a strong focus on educational talks regarding our planet and sustainability that feature as part of each festival day.

International acts such as Gwenno and The Correspondents will make the trek to Botanic Park this March, while this year’s lineup also hosts Aussie acts including John Butler Trio, Julia Jacklin, Kaiit, and Thelma Plum. Adelaide’s very own Tkay Maidza and Timberwolf will also perform.

Set amongst the stunning scenery of Botanic Park, WOMAD encourages green initiatives including the use of reusable cups, as well as compostable and recyclable cutlery and plates, to preserve the parks beauty. WOMAD also works in partnership with Greening Australia, with a small portion of every festival ticket sale going towards tree plantings. Also offering an extremely diverse selection of food options, there is something to cater for everyone at WOMAD.

Tickets prices vary for day and night packages - group bookings are discounted, so round up your troops and get around this incredible festival.

Cub Sport @ The Gov

The story behind Cub Sport is possibly the cutest band story you’ll ever hear about. Members Tim and Sam grew up together, where they were best mates for almost a decade, before realising they were in love.

Both coming from religious families, their love was hard to express and come to terms with, but through their music they’ve been able to tell their unique story which has positively impacted a lot of fans. In turn they’ve been able to let go of years of fear and shame surrounding their relationship.

cubsport bbbys.jpg

Writing songs about coming out, acceptance and being true to yourself, the boys’ epic love story has helped transform them into the influential band that they are today - campaigning for LGBTQI rights very heavily on their social media.

With a couple albums under their belts, new and old Cub Sport fans are in for a treat with performances from both BATS and This Is Our Vice sure to be heard on the night.

Tim will no doubt be seen with his iconic unbuttoned shirt look, and the crowd will with absolutely no hesitation be seen swaying, smiling, potentially even crying, as arguably the most moving Cub Sport song Come On Mess Me Up takes the stage.

Cub Sport really do know how to get down. Come along for a show built on love, pride, acceptance and most importantly fantastic music.

The Story So Far/Basement @ The Gov

The Story So Far/Basement @ The Gov

One of the most epic co-headline tours is about to hit one of Adelaide’s best live music venues; The Gov. The Story So Far and Basement will be bringing their punchy lyrics and grungy sounds to the tour, to bless the ears of fans who haven’t heard them perform in Adelaide for, well, too long.

Basement had their fans on edge for a little while back in 2012, where they announced an indefinite hiatus after completing a tour in the US. Thankfully, the boys came to their senses and returned with more of what we love. Let’s not think about what would’ve happened if they didn’t. On the night. the opening riffs to Promise Everything will have those in the front row going mental, as well as upbeat tracks Disconnect and Be Here Now, from the new album Beside Myself .

The Story So Far, known mostly for their heavy bass-lines, and Parker Cannon’s classic punk rock style of singing, are somehow also just as great when it comes to their slower songs - huge reference to Loro and Upside Down. With 4 albums in the bank, TSSF have a multitude of music for fans to froth over, with their latest album being the one they’re most proud of.

With both bands having released new music late last year, this will be the first time their most recent albums will be played to an Adelaide crowd. I can confidently say that all fans will be just as excited to hear them perform.

It’s gonna be one hell of a show - grab your tickets here.

St Jerome's Laneway Festival @ Old Harts Mill

Arguably one of the best days on the Aussie music calendar, Laneway returns to Adelaide in 2019 to bring a little bit of magic to the Western suburbs.

Crowd favourites Gang Of Youths will be headlining the day, majority of fans I assume making the trek purely for Dave Le'aupepe’s infamous dance moves. And what’s a festival lineup without Skegss?

Many female acts including Camp Cope, Courtney Barnett, Ruby Fields and Jorja Smith are also set to hit the stage - a nice addition to the often male dominated lineups.

Laneway will take place on the 8th of February and being it’s 15th year running, will no doubt be one to remember.

Crown and Anchor, voted ‘Best Music Venue’ in the 2018 SA Music Awards and host to another one of Adelaide’s favourite one day festivals; A Day of Clarity, guarantees Swirl Fest punters a fantastic experience.

Homegrown legends Colourblind, Zen Panda and Dead Roo will hit the stage on the day, as well as Siamese, who will bless the crowd with their distinctive grungy sound one last time after announcing their split late last year.

The lineup also features various interstate acts including Baby Blue, Vintage Crop and Foam. Sounds pretty bloody good to me.

Taking Back Sunday are heading to Australia to celebrate their 20th anniversary since forming the group back in 1999.

The Adelaide leg of the TBS tour will be held at HQ Complex, one of Adelaide’s newest gig hot spots. Although the boys released a new song in November last year, they will be transporting the crowd back to the early 00s with the songs we all know and love from their early albums.

Performing Tell All Your Friends and Louder Now in full, the gig is set to be nostalgic as ever. The crowd no doubt will be singing, or screaming, in unison as hits such as Make Damn Sure, Error Operator, and Cute Without The ‘E’, make the stage.

Expect lots of noise, lots of head banging, and your ears to be ringing for the next week or so.

Summer Daze: End of Year Breakup

This time of year is pretty stressful for students - battling the heat, juggling study, work, trying to maintain some form of social life, and all the while prepping for dreaded exams. Don't fret - the end is in sight! And what better way to celebrate the end of uni than a huge party courtesy of the Adelaide University Arts Association?

In collaboration with On Dit, Oxfam, and the Adelaide University Drawing Club, the Arts Association is turning what is usually a study space into an art exhibition/live music venue. With a killer lineup of local bands plus support from a string of local wineries and breweries, this is one party you don't want to miss.

With tickets at $5, you'd be a fool to miss out. Click here for tickets!

Josh Wade @ Rhino Room!

Sharp-witted online superstar Josh Wade has been selling out stand up shows across the country since he was just 15 years old! Now in 2017 Josh is back with a brand new show Me, Myself & Cunny. In this audio-visual spectacular, Josh explores his relationship with the many masks and characters he has developed throughout his lifetime as an attempt to fit in, and his 20 year quest to find his comedic counterpart - ‘Cunny’. No topic is left untouched in this show that promises to be shocking, crude, uncomfortable, but most all - honest.

Josh spent the first half of the year performing Me, Myself & Cunny across the country to sold out crowds at Perth’s Fringe World, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Sydney Comedy Festival. Now it’s regional Australia’s turn to catch Josh live on stage, with a massive 15-date tour across the country, including encore shows in Adelaide and Melbourne to meet demand.
